Free Style Polo is a style of polo that is only played in Gilgit Baltistan. The rule of this game is that there are no rules. This Polo style was introduced by Ali Shair Khan Anchan the ruler of Skardu. He played his first freestyle Polo in Shandur when he conquered Chitral. The Shandur Polo Ground is now a world-famous Polo Ground.

From Ali Shair Khan Anchan to till date the Free Style Polo is very famous and being played in all regions of Gilgit Baltistan.
Now freestyle polo is famous around the world. But only paid in the Gilgit Baltistan region.
Freestyle polo is also known as Game of Kings & King of All Games.
The reason is that this game is introduced by King Ali Shair Khad Anchan.

What Is Polo?
The word “Polo” is a local Balti Word that means a ball. In Freestyle Polo it is made with hardwood. In the beginning, the ball was made by experts by hand but now machines are also used to make this ball.
Free Style Polo Details
As we told earlier, there are no rules in a free-style Polo game, which means you cannot find rules like football, cricket, and other games. Even if you ever watch a Polo game on TV you can see a match referee standing with a whistle.
Such things are not in Free Style Polo Match. But there are a few basic rules and concepts, like Goal score, Out, etc which we will discuss in detail later.

By rule, there will be six players from both teams at a time. If any player gets injured during the game the other team will skip one player also.
How To Play Free Style Polo?
To play a freestyle Polo of course a horse is needed and a player. All players will hold a long stick with a “T” shape which they use to hit the ball to make goal scores.

Polo is one of the most difficult games as compared to other games. The rules and regulations that are played internationally are different. There are no rules & regulations in polo that are played in Gilgit Baltistan and the Chatral region. That’s why it is called freestyle polo.
- Each team consists of six players.
- There are a total of 2 halves of 50 minutes if any team scores 6 goals before the halves then the team leads the winner.
- Every team consists of 6 players and during playing if any player is badly injured then the same T-shirt number player is also out from the game. Minor injuries are common in freestyle polo. If any player gained a normal injury then he was given first aid and back in the team again.
- In case of any dispute about the goal, the jury result will be final. None of the team can challenge the jury’s decision.
- If the player catches the ball then he tries to carry it to the opponent’s goal. If he succeeds in taking the ball opponent’s goal or throwing the opponent’s goal then his team gets one point. But for this, there needs great skill and bravery because the opponent team will not easily let you go to take the ball in their goal.
